The Ebonyi State Chief Judge, Alloy Nwankwo, on Tuesday discharged nine prison inmates in Abakaliki and Afikpo federal prisons.
Mr. Nwankwo also granted bail to 22 other inmates during his jail delivery exercise at the two federal prisons in the state.
Speaking at the event, the chief judge said the exercise would help with the speedy trial of criminal cases and other offences and also curb problems of offenders spending more than their normal punishment period.
He reaffirmed the readiness of the judiciary to fast track the domestication of criminal justice delivery.

He frowned at unnecessary suffering meted out on inmates who had stayed several years at the prison without trial and whose information has not been filed by authorities concerned saying it was unacceptable.
Mr. Nwankwo implored the police and the ministry of justice not to meddle with files of accused persons.
The State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Ikechukwu Alobu, said due to heaps of files of accused persons which had accumulated overtime, there has been delay in the processing of their files.
He noted that the ministry has been working hard to ensure the speedy processing of accused person’s files so that no person would unjustly suffer as a result of non-trial or overstay in the prisons
