With her current movie, Wives on Strike, notable actress and filmmaker, Omoni Oboli, appears to have found an answer to cinematic success, hitting the N51 million in just 17 days of screenings at major cities of the country. This is a far cry from her previous flicks; Being Mrs Elliot and The First Lady.

Indications to this feat began showing in the third day of exposure at the cinemas with a return of N15 million, a situation which FilmOne, the distributors, described as setting new Box Office record for Nollywood film in the country.

Going by FilmOne’s record, over 50, 000 people in different states of the federation have seen the movie so far. Fans have also eulogised the film for its story line and comic side which they say measure up with the reality of the present times.

The star-studded cast include Uche Jombo-Rodriguez, Ufuoma Mcdermoth, Kehinde Bankole, Julius Agwu, Keneth Okonkwo and Omoni Oboli who is also producer cum director of the movie.

Wives on Strike is a hilarious comedy about a group of market women who decided to take matters into their own hands against their husbands in a bid to stir them into standing up for a young girl whom they wanted to protect from the wishes of her own father. The female cast, in interpreting their roles, give the movie some moments of laughter without missing the serious theme of the film.

Chief Operating Officer of FilmOne, Moses Babatope, compared the movie with Hollywood’s The Huntsman, showing about the same time, and described the former as amazing.

“We expected a decent run at the cinemas but no one expected this record breaking standard the movie is setting at the box-office. The record of the movie has truly amazed everyone. And to say it is beating The Huntsman despite being in cinema for three week is so amazing. Omoni is truly Nollywood personality of the year and definitely casting her name is gold.”

For the producer of the film, this is about show of love from fans. “I am full of gratitude,” she said. “People have shown me so much love. The record is humbling. I am gratefu
