The Ondo State Government said on Sunday that the verification exercise for pensioners to complete the data update of the State Civil Service which started in August 2015, with the serving officers would commence today (Monday).

Mr. Akin Adaramola, the State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, who disclosed this to journalists in Akure, the state capital, said government considered the age of the pensioners and had provided adequate measures to ensure that the exercise was hitch-free and less stressful.

He averred that the exercise was not to reduce the cost of governance, but to update the data of the state and described it as a part of the “I am alive” exercise of the pensioners in the state.

aramola, who also doubles as the Chairman of the Verification Committee, explained that the exercise was the second leg meant for the pensioners on the payroll of the state government, who retired from the core civil service, Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The Commissioner added the second group were secondary school pensioners, both teaching and non-teaching staff, stressing that it would be the turn of those at the local government, as well as primary school teachers, very soon.
