Female suicide bomber kills 7 in IDPs Maiduguri camp

A female suicide bomber killed herself and seven others in a transit camp on the outskirts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Sunday morning. Eight others were injured in the explosion at 10:40 a.m., the state’s police commissioner, Aderemi Opadokun, confirm to a news agency in a text message “Since the internally displaced persons were coming voluntarily into the town, it was decided that they had to be screened to avoid the insurgents mingling with them,” the chairman of Borno’s emergency agency.

Three officials of the Civilian Joint Task Force were also injured in the attack. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Boko Haram is largely suspected to be responsible.


The terrorist group has claimed responsibility for similar attacks in the past. The attack came on a day that President Muhammadu Buhari reiterated his commitment to ending the activities of Boko Haram in the northern part of the country. 

Boko Haram seeking to impose its version of Islamic law on Nigeria, has stepped up suicide attacks since President Buhari ordered the military to defeat the insurgents by the end of the year. The group has killed tens of thousands of people since its campaign began in 2009.
