Manchester United's Chris Smalling hospitalised after fainting on holiday

Chris Smalling receives stitches
Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has been pictured in hospital in Indonesia after fainting following an aggressive bout of food poisoning.
For a while today it seemed a more serious problem after a picture emerged on Twitter of a bandage wrapped around Smalling's head and left wrist, a brace on his neck and a drip coming out of his arm.
The Twitter post suggested he had been hurt while having a surfing lesson in Bali while other reports said he had been stung by a jellyfish.

United issued a short statement and the truth about the 26-year-old's injury proved more mundane than the rumours.

"Manchester United can clarify Chris Smalling has had food poisoning during his holiday which resulted in him fainting on Sunday," the statement said.
"The 26-year-old defender was taken to the hospital and is now feeling fine.
"Smalling is currently on vacation in Bali following his time with England at Euro 2016 before reporting back for pre-season training later this month.

"Chris would like to thank everyone for their well wishes."
