£20million to be spent on the burial site and surrounding gardens of Princess Diana to mark the anniversary of her death

Diana, Princess of Wales
The final resting place of Princess Diana is set for a pricey makeover to mark the 20th anniversary of her death.

Her brother Earl Spencer will lead a £20million renovation of the burial site, based in the huge Northamptonshire estate of Althorp, a Grade I listed stately home.

It will be the first major revamp of the gardens in 350 years.

A statement on Althorp's website read: "The Oval Lake where Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest on September 6, 1997, is undergoing an extensive redesign to honour her memory.

"It will be completed in time for the 20th anniversary of her death, in August 2017.

"The island at Althorp is in the process of undergoing extensive remodelling, along with the rest of Althorp’s gardens."
