Oshiomhole’s aide arraigned for illegal gun possession
Curtis Ugbo, a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, was on Thursday arraigned before an Oredo Magistrate Court sitting in Benin, for illegal gun possession and an anti-government publication he posted on the internet.
Ugbo, 47, allegedly committed the offence on April 12, at 2B, Ugbor Road, Benin.
The alleged publication which was read in the Court, said: “What is wrong with my boss, the ground breaking of Edo State own cement industry in partnership with private company under government public partnership and stakeholders, no State House member or Speaker and National Assembly member present.”
According to the prosecutor, Sylvester Omor, an ASP, the said statement was targeted at the Edo State government and is capable of disturbing public peace.
Omor, also told the court that the accused unlawfully had in his possession, a double barrel gun without a valid licence to cover it.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 59 (1), 249 (d) and 430 (2) of the Criminal Code Cap. 48, Vol. II, laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976, now applicable in Edo.
The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. C.A. Nwoha, who granted the accused person bail in sum of N100,000 and a surety in like sum who must have a landed property
She then adjourned the case till April 26, for hearing.
