Aaron Paul: 'Bad scripts are common in Hollywood'

Anthony Mackie only signed on to Triple 9 because he was promised great food on set.

Aaron Paul is now used to receiving terrible scripts.
The actor made his name on hit TV show Breaking Bad, winning countless awards for his portrayal of meth addict Jesse Pinkman.

Since the series finished in 2013, Aaron has launched a film career, and is inundated with movie offers. However the calibre of script isn't always top class, which makes selecting work tricky.

That wasn't the case when new feature Triple 9 landed in his lap though.

"It's really John (Hillcoat, director) is the reason. It's true!" Aaron exclaimed to Cover Media. "I'm so used to offers coming in to me that are just terrible scripts and then honestly here's another offer it's going to be awful. But then I see John Hillcoat is attached, I know it's going to be a gritty, raw honest film. And that's exactly what it was."

Triple 9 tells the story of a group of criminals tasked with carrying out a heist for Russian mobster Irina Vlaslov, played by Kate Winslet. Chiwetel Ejiofor, Casey Affleck and Anthony Mackie also co-star, but some of their reasons for joining the line-up differ from Aaron's.

"For me it was the craft service," Anthony smiled, of the on-set catering. "I'm a big supporter of food while I work, and you know John was like, 'Listen man, I heard about you I called around town and people told me what you like. We got your favourite craft service person. So if you do it, we'll take care of you."

Oscar-nominee Chiwetel agrees with Aaron's sentiments though, explaining that John was the biggest draw for him.

"We talked about this a lot a long time ago, several years ago," he shared. "And it was always just the concept of it, the idea of it was always very intriguing, but I've always been such a huge fan of John's films."
