The Labour Party gubernatorial party in the last election in Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala again on Tuesday stirred the political waters in the state as he disclosed his move to dump the Labour Party for the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The decision to join the ruling APC was concluded on Tuesday after a stakeholders meeting with hundreds of his political associates in Ibadan.
A similar meeting was held in Ogbomoso few weeks ago where he told his home base supporters of his decision to quit Labor Party but not returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
tween 2007 and 2011, he was governor of the state on the ticket of the PDP. Besides, he had been deputy governor of the state between 2003 and 2007.
His romance with the APC and Governor Abiola Ajumobi has been in the pipeline shortly after the last general election which he lost the chance of returning for second time to Ajimobi’s second coming.
Unlike the candidate of the Accord Party, and also former governor of the State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, Alao-Akala declined to go to the tribunal following his loss at the polls.
Speaking at the meeting the Ogbomoso-born politician said the decision to move into another party is to secure a better political future and relevance for his teeming supporters so that he can also contribute to the socio economic development of the nation.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the meeting, the chairman of his campaign organization, Dr Kola Balogun said ‘the decision to move to APC was a joint decision of the supporters of Otunba Alao Akala, and being a leader that listens to followers, and he has agreed to go with us to APC’.
He said further that ‘APC was the only alternative available as other political parties are already in crisis and we believe that our going to APC will enhance the growth and advancement of the party and the state at large’.
Dr Kola Balogun said ‘what happened today is just a conclusion on what we have been deliberating on for some time now and by the time we are having a formal declaration, party bigwigs across the nation would be present.
