Amy Schumer and Serena Williams have posed topless for the 2016 Pirelli Calendar.

Amy Schumer is among the women making history in the 2016 Pirelli Calendar after stripping off for a saucy shoot.

The brains behind the iconic year planner usually hire scantily clad models and capture them in exotic locations, but they're trying something new for next year's calendar - their 43rd.

They've chosen to honour 13 women of "outstanding professional, social, cultural, sporting and artistic accomplishment".

Famed photographer Annie Leibovitz teamed up with the Pirelli bosses to shoot the game girls, including Schumer, Serena Williams, Patti Smith and Yoko Ono.

Topless Schumer and Williams stripped to their underwear for their snaps, and in typical fashion, the Trainwreck star decided to have a little fun.

She posed for Leibovitz wearing only knickers and heels, which seated on a stool and posing with a coffee cup.

Beautiful, gross, strong, thin, fat, pretty, ugly, sexy, disgusting, flawless, woman. Thank you @annieleibovitz pic.twitter.com/kc0rIDvHVi

Schumer, 34, who clearly didn't fret about getting super-toned for the Pirelli session, is thrilled with her photo, taking to Instagram to share her feelings with fans.

"Beautiful, gross, strong, thin, fat, pretty, ugly, sexy, disgusting, flawless, woman. Thank you Annie Leibovitz!" she wrote.

Tennis ace Serena opted for a more athletic pose, captured from behind, and punk icon Smith and Yoko chose to keep their clothes on for their sessions with Leibovitz.

The 2016 Pirelli Calendar girls also include Chinese actress Yao Chen and film director Ava DuVernay.

Schumer has always been outspoken about how important it is for women to appreciate themselves more and be comfortable with who they are, and used a recent interview with Women's Health magazine to encourage women to ditch the ideal and embrace their shape.

"I just want people to feel better," she told the publication. "Look at yourself in the mirror and grab your own tits and be like, I've got it going on. And just be psyched that you are healthy.

"What is this, like, surreal standard (of beauty)? Who is that important to? Who are the men that want that? Who are the women who want to be that way? I've just never been striving for (an) alternative body for myself. I don't take my face and body as a suggestion."
