Newly crowned best female African footballer, Asisat Oshoala has shown off her plaque while reciting the Islamic prayer beads. The Muslim faithful had earlier wished that her success would inspire other women the continent.
Oshoala stated: “I was actually expecting this question to be asked, this award like I said is not for me. I actually received it on behalf of all the female footballers in Africa to speak for us; we deserve more in my opinion.
“A lot of things are going around in the world now and we know it happens everywhere. What we go through in Africa right now is nothing to write home about, same thing goes with Ghana and Nigeria as well. I think we deserve to do more, the (Football) the federations have to do more in every country regarding female football as their own.
“I believe we can actually do better. The men have been doing it for years and they have seen a lot of improvement in the game. I think if the girls can get half of that it will definitely bring joy to a lot of girls, a lot of kids out there that feel they are hopeless right now”, she sermonized.
Oshoala was announced winner of the Glo sponsored CAF Female Player of the Year award last Thursday in Abuja, Nigeria.
