The Egypt-led investigation committee, said on Saturday that the memory chips of the second black box in the Egyptair plane that plunged into the Mediterranean Sea in May were intact.
The committee said in Cairo that the examination of the electronic board components of the plane’s cockpit voice recorder (CVR), the second of two black boxes on the aircraft- showed that none of the memory chips were damaged.
It said that the CVR is in France for repair and described it as a step that could help determine the cause of the crash.
The committee added that some other supportive components associated with communication to and from the memory chips had to be been removed and replaced with new ones.
It said that an advanced technology would be used to extract the recordings from these units.
“After the replacement of the CVR board components, test results were satisfactory as it enabled the reading of the recorders of the CVR memory unit.
It said the committee’s investigators would return to Cairo with the fixed boards for analysis.
