Eguaveon: NFF needs to change its attitude towards super eagles handlers

Austin-Eguavoen
Former Super Eagles Coach, Austin Eguavoen, believes the senior national team, will not come out of its problems unless the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) changed its attitude to its handlers.
The NFF is set to announce a new foreign coach who will guide the Super Eagles through the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers and other engagements, but Eguaveon says the move would not be effective if the NFF did not change its attitude to the technical crew’s welfare.
Speaking in Lagos, Eguaveon highlighted the problems facing national teams’ coaches, saying the inability of the NFF to live up to its obligations to the coaches is a major problem affecting the performance of the teams.
He said the Super Eagles have been at the crossroads over the years because the federation do not pay the coaches and players’ emoluments as at when due, adding that other countries do not joke with their team’s welfare because that is the only way to get the best out of them.

“Over the years, the national team coaches have been owed salaries by the NFF and it has not helped in ensuring they are 100 per cent concentrated on the job.
“No coach can give 100 percent when he is denied his salaries. These coaches have families to cater for. I believe the issue of payment of coaches’ salaries as at when due should be one of the problems the NFF must look into before getting a new coach for the Eagles,” he said.
Rather than getting a foreign coach for the Super Eagles, Eguavoen suggests that national U-23 coach, Samson Siasia be given the job. He said: “I think Siasia should be the best coach to handle the Eagles now based on his current record. If the NFF has the money to hire and sustain a foreign coach they should act now because the Eagles need to start early preparations for the 2018 World Cup qualifier
