Cameroonian rescued from high tension pole in Lagos

A Cameroonian identified as Frederick Gino was on Thursday rescued from a high tension electric pole in Lagos.

The incident which occurred at Adebisi Ogunniyi Crescent, Lekki Phase one, attracted the attention of motorists and passersby who notified the state Fire Service through the emergency toll free numbers.
The Nation gathered that road users saw the man on the pole as early as 5:30am as the community made frantic efforts to get him down without success.
Eyewitnesses said the young man had climbed the pole with the hope of being electrocuted, but luckily for him there was no electricity supply to the area at the time of the incident.
He was said to have attempted to cut himself when operatives of the state fire service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) brought him down.

The Nation gathered that the man sustained injuries during the rescue operation and was taken to Oba Yekini Eleguishi Health Centre in Lekki.
According to one of the eyewitnesses, the suicidal man disclosed that he does not know how he got to Nigeria.
Confirming the incident, the General Manager, LASEMA, Michael Akindele, said investigation will be conducted on the matter.
“Security operatives will conduct proper investigation on the matter. People should be watchful, observe strange faces and other activities around them. Such incidents should also be reported to security agencies or a call placed to either 767 or 112.”
