Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure, has admitted he was disappointed with his failure to win a fifth straight CAF Player of the Year award.
The 32-year-old midfielder has previously won the award in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, africanFootball.com reports.
Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o Fils has also won the award four times, while Nigeria’s Nwankwo Kanu, El Hadj Diouf of Senegal and Toure’s compatriot Didier Drogba have scooped the prestigious individual prize twice each.
Gabonese star, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang recorded 143 points to upset Yaya in a vote done by coaches or technical directors of CAF member-nations.
Yaya beat Aubameyang to the top prize in 2014.
“I am disappointed but that won’t take anything from anybody. I am sure Andre (Ayew) is also disappointed after what he did last year,” africanFootball.com quoted the Ivoirian captain as saying on the award ceremony held on Thursday night in Abuja, Nigeria.
“This is not the time to complain. We will all go back and continue to work hard.”
