Men of Ogun State National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have impounded two purposely-built bullion vans and a Ford bus loaded with bags and parcels of suspected Cannabis Sativa popularly known as Indian hemp.
The State Commander, NDLEA, Ogun State command, Mr. Bala Fagge, while briefing journalists about the arrest and seizure, said the two vans, Nissan and Mitsubishi brands with number plates FKJ 731 XQ and LSR 837 XR respectively, were impounded at Ijebu Igbo area of the state after the suspects who had abandoned the consignment when the NDLEA operatives were closed in on them.
Faggie said the suspect, Ismail Adeoyo, who had been arrested in connection with illicit drug found in the Ford bus had confessed that he brought the consignment from the neighbouring Republic of Benin.
The 38-year-old suspect who claimed he hailed from Ibadan said he had made three trips in recent times.
The parcels of the illicit drug inside the bus were cleverly hid inside a false compartment built by the suspect for such concealment.
The state NDLEA boss said the suspect was arrested on Tuesday and would be charged to court accordingly.
Concerning the bullion vans, Fagge said it took a lot of intelligence to foil the plan of the drug dealers, adding that there was no way anyone could have suspected that such utility vehicles were being used to carry illicit drugs.
He said, “One could have waved on such bullion vans if one had seen them on the road. No one would have thought that bags of Cannabis Sativa (Indian Hemp) could be hidden inside the vans.
“The bullion vans were abandoned by drug dealers at Ijebu Igbo. And in the border area at Ilara, Imeko Afon, we had made about five arrests in one month.”
